Just Slightly Irritated

In the last week or so, I haven't had much time to watch the news. Apparently I haven't been missing anything...of moral value, that is. Last night I turned on the TV to catch up on the world a bit only to view L.A.'s mayor delightfully joining two men in matrimony (I won't dare label it holy matrimony). Then this morning I turned on the morning news to hear about the alleged "pregnancy pact" in a high school back east...supposedly 17 girls are pregnant in this particular school. 17!!! Anyway, one of anchors interviewed a couple - the boy being 20 years old and the girl being 17 years old...and 5 months pregnant. Now, I'm not passing judgement on these kids and they're not even the ones I was upset with. Its the anchor!!!! When he introduced this couple he actually told them, "Wow, congratulations. Its so wonderful and will change your life. Do you have a name picked out?" Is it just me or is there something wrong here? Hello?? Can anyone say "statutory rape"??? Whatever. I'm just slightly irritated.

Another Bekah Quote

My 3 year old keeps me laughing. Today she said another one of her funny phrases that she doesn't even intend to amuse me with. You know the term "you crack me up"? She altered that a bit as we were being silly this afternoon. In the middle of her laughter (which still sounds so young and sort of like she just sucked on helium), she tells me "you're giving me cracks!!!" and then proceeds to look for literal cracks on her hands and arms. Later, she also asked me for a napkin to clean the weasel...she meant easel. Keep 'em coming Bek!

Nancy's Birthday and Sucio

Last night we attended my cousin, Nancy's, 55th birthday party. It was so much fun! Nancy is entering senior-citizenhood this year so the family threw a big 70's style bash in her honor. Many of her friends dressed the part complete with tye dyed shirts, peace signs, and floral wreaths for their hair. To make the party even more fun, many of the guys in our family including my dad, brother, and 3 cousins, along with a family friend, formed a band named Sucio, and have been practicing for months for this big night. They sounded great! They played many older rock n roll songs and it was so much fun watching people dance, especially my daughters. They had the time of their lives. Enjoy the pics (sorry some are so dark)!

Yesterday evening I returned home from a Tupperware delivery and 4 of our neighborhood girls were playing on our culdasac. These girls range from 8 to 10 years old, so while I don't mind Annie and Bekah playing with them a little (which my children think is so great), I'm cautious just because of the age difference and not knowing too much about the other families (call me paranoid!). Anyway, the girls all decided to come over and hang out in my patio area. They started asking about school and if Annie will go to the local public school next year. I said that no, I would be homeschooling her. At first they just paused and I thought I would hear something like, "That would be boring!!" but nope. Instead they began offering their old school papers and books. I told them we would be meeting with our church group on Fridays and doing different classes as well as many field trips. They thought that sounded pretty cool. I could only hope that all reactions to our new venture will be so supportive.

In an effort to keep my girls active and socialized, I just signed them up for a creative movement (what is that, exactly?)and tumbling class. The only community class I ever signed Annie up for was tap/ballet about a year and a half ago. It was a nightmare. She just wasn't ready to follow the teacher and take turns, etc. I'm hoping things will go a little smoother this time around, especially since both of my girls will be in class together. I'm sure I'll be posting pictures as class begins next Monday.

Scissors

Just a quick note to anyone with small children. The best pair of scissors for a toddler to learn with are found in a Playdough set. They really do cut paper, but not fingers! At worst a child could get a little pinch which I think would teach the concept of being careful with scissors. I love ours for Rebekah.

Recent Pix

These are the first and last days of preschool of Annie with her teacher, Mrs. Lynda.

Annie with her buddy, Josiah. These kids are two peas in a pod!

My dad with the girls in front of the sold sign of his new house.

Bek wanted so badly to sing with the kids on stage at Annie's open house.

Bek was so happy to find her favorite stuffed animal, Mel. It was the highlight of her day!

No...I Didn't Drop Off the Face of The Earth

I'm a baaaad blogger. I've missed it so much and almost everyday I think to myself, "I should blog about such and such." I can't remember all the things I wanted to post about so I guess I'll start off with a general update on what's happening in our lives:

Seminary: As of today (and sometimes our plans do change daily) it looks like Jose can register to go part time for one day a week. The details are still being worked out at his job and we're trusting the Lord that if its His will, things will indeed work out. He has also been looking closer to the school for a new job and so far the Lord hasn't opened any of those doors. We'll see!

Home schooling: We decided to apply with the ISP through our church for this coming year. I'm soooooooooooooo excited!! So is Annie. I hope I'm not looking at this adventure through rose-colored glasses. I know in my mind it will be hard consistent work, but it also sounds like so much fun to me. I have to temper my excitement as I'm ready to purchase every book written on the subject as well go broke buying supplies. The only thing I'm lamenting is the fact I'll have to give up my cleaning/laundry schedule in my mornings. I know myself and if I say I'm just going to switch the laundry over, I end up switching, folding, putting away, and putting in a new load all in time to start the process over again. Juggling school and household work, oh yeah and cooking and recreation and bills, etc. will be tricky. Any advice is much appreciated!!

Tupperware: I had an awesome first month due to God's blessing and some awesome friends who got the word out that I was selling. I've truly enjoyed doing my parties and getting my discount. All that said, I'll be putting my parties on hold in mid July so I can spend the remainder of the summer preparing for home school and spending quality time with Jose before his classes start up again.

A few other things going on: my dad is buying a house. I'm so happy for him! Its exactly what he's been looking for for a long time. Now we're going to spend the next couple months packing and packing and packing. The work will be well worth it.

I think I found a new hobby. Monday I went with my friend, Corinne, to scrapbook a little. At first I was reallly overwhelmed with all the paper and embellishments. I'm not creative by nature, but I'm not too bad at following instructions. By the end of our two hours I was hooked and I'm ready to start trying it at home. I couldn't believe how nice the pages came out...thanks to Corinne! Check out her blog and the fabulous pages she has come up with...http://haikuthoughts.blogspot.com/.

Yesterday was Annie's last day of school. :( I will miss her teachers and other kids so much as will she. Jose was able to take 1/2 day off work to join the fun at her party at the park. I'm so grateful the Lord allowed us to keep her in preschool this past year.

I think that is generally all that is happening. I'll post a few recent pictures later. Okay...I'm renewing my committment to journal. And so it begins (again).
